# Data retention

> Automatically delete your AI agent's data after a number of days you choose.

Data retention lets you choose how long each AI agent keeps its data. Once data is older than the period you set, it's deleted automatically.

It helps you:

* Keep only the data you need.
* Meet your company's privacy policy or regulations such as GDPR.
* Reduce the amount of personal data stored about your customers.

## What you can delete

Each type of data has its own setting, so you can turn on only the ones you need.

| Data | What's deleted | Counted from | Allowed period |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Conversations** | Conversations and their messages, attachments and analysis | The last activity in the conversation | 7 to 365 days |
| **Contacts** | Saved contacts | The last update to the contact or any of its conversations | 7 to 365 days |
| **Exports** | Exported files for this AI agent | When the export was created | 1 to 7 days |

## Set a retention period

1. Open your AI agent.
2. Go to **Settings > Data retention**.
3. Turn on the toggle for the data you want to delete automatically.
4. Enter the number of days after which it should be deleted.
5. Click **Save**, and confirm if asked.
